Become skilled at retrieving your images. Learn methods of processing, organizing, and managing your photos. Explore proper naming, filing, organizing, printing, Web site usage, and e-mailing of images. Basic image control, enhancement, alteration, sizing, cropping, and rotation are demonstrated.

Capturing Your Beautiful Flowers with a Scanner

For digital photographers, floral arrangers, gardeners, and artists who love flowers, try something new with quick and creative results - scan fresh and preserved flowers, bouquets, and individual flower parts and transfer them to Photoshop for digital enhancement. Emphasis will be on Photoshop or iPhoto's image editing software that can adjust and retouch the scan, as well as produce different backgrounds, colorations, and styles. This is a great technique for producing your own line of greeting cards or announcements. Bring to class 3 to 5 cut flowers for possible scanning.

Workshop: Patterns and Textures in the Garden

Patterns, textures, and beautiful forms can be found everywhere in a garden. Spend the day exploring The New York Botanical Garden, photographing the designs that have long inspired artists, and deepening your awareness of light. With individual instruction this course covers using natural light and color effectively, incorporating visual design and composition for impact, successfully translating what your eye sees into a photograph, and enhancing your overall photographic skills. We will shoot early in the morning to take advantage of the best light then critique the morning's work (if made digitally) at lunch, and use the afternoon to apply what we have learned back out in the field. Participants should have basic knowledge of their equipment and a working knowledge of aperture/shutter relationships, exposure control, and depth of field.
