Summer Intensives at The New York Botanical Garden

Summer Intensive programs are a great way to jump-start a new career or to learn additional skills. Spend the summer learning how to create professional-quality floral arrangements, design residential landscapes, use live plants for healing and rehabilitation, or draw botanical art.

Floral Design
Five weeks, Monday–Friday, July 20–August 21, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Learn to arrange flowers in a variety of styles for many occasions, including weddings, parties, and holidays. Take classes full time and fulfill the course work for a Certificate in Floral Design*. Hands-on training prepares you for working with fresh flowers quickly! Professional florists teach the courses. No prior flower arranging experience is necessary.
*The Intensive does not include the 120-hour internship needed to complete the certificate.

Landscape Design
Five weeks, Monday–Friday, July 13–August 14, 9 a.m.–9 p.m.
Accelerate your landscape design career plans by earning over 175 hours (of the total 342 hours) toward your certificate! Learn how to prepare and present design solutions in an intimate and exciting studio atmosphere. Professional landscape architects and designers guide you through several steps of the design process, while professional horticulturists teach plant identification and guest lecturers speak on current topics of relevance to design. The Botanical Garden is used for design projects and plant study.

Horticultural Therapy
Part I: Three weeks, Monday–Friday, July 6–24, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Part II: Two weeks, Monday–Friday, July 27–August 7, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
For over 20 years, the Garden has been a recognized leader in training horticultural therapists. Learn from instructors who are experts in their fields; study horticultural therapy programs, techniques, and populations served and visit actual horticultural therapy sites.

Botanical Art
Two-, three-, four-, and five-day courses are available. Start with Drawing I or focus on a particular concentration of your choice such as colored pencil or watercolor. Plan to devote several hours of homework time in addition to class time.
